Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery is pleased to announce the Fall 2025 show of Provocations.

When: September 5th - October 10th 2025

Provocations kicks off the Donna Beam Gallery’s 2025–26 season with a diverse array of contemporary, three-dimensional art. True to its title, the exhibition urges visitors to question established assumptions—provoking fresh inquiries into what each work communicates, why particular materials are chosen, and how form and content collide. By stretching the limits of medium and subject, Provocations invites a daring reassessment of artistic conventions.

The Donna Beam Gallery presents, American Girl, the MFA thesis exhibition of Karla Lagunas. The exhibition takes on the weight of the American Dream—its myths, contradictions, and costs. Through performance, video, painting, and installation, Lagunas confronts survival and identity, challenging the roles we’re forced to play and the stories we’re assigned. At the heart of the exhibition is a powerful live performance on March 7, 2025, at 7:00 PM, where the gallery transforms into a stage for both the artist and the audience.

Visitors will encounter an installation of loose canvas, suspended and tethered, inviting them to reflect on the weight and burden of identity and survival. A covered wagon, placed at the center, represents a space that is both burdened and fixed, yet full of possibility.
Lagunas, a first-generation Mexican American artist, weaves her personal experiences into this exhibition, drawing from her journey as the daughter of immigrants. The exhibition speaks to the fractures of the present moment, where histories are rewritten, futures remain uncertain, and survival becomes an act of defiance. Her practice, fluid and evolving, stretches the idea of painting, sculpture, and performance, creating spaces where joy, vulnerability, and resistance thrive together.

Exhibition dates: March 3 - 14, 2025; Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Reception: March 7, 6 - 9pm; performance at 7 p.m.

The Annual Juried Student Exhibition is an established tradition in its 40th year at UNLV, where artists submit their work to be reviewed and selected by art professionals. This exhibition hosted by the Donna Beam Gallery and the Art Department offers our students an opportunity to engage with the broader artistic community, inspiring growth and creativity within our institution.

Our juror;
Originally from Pensacola, Florida Sam Davis received his BFA from the University of Florida in Creative Photography and an MFA in Photography and Sculpture from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Sam creates images that reference his love of family history (his father had once been a participant in an atomic test during the 1950’s, while other family members worked on the first submarines during the civil war) coupled with a playful curiosity of popular and kitsch culture. His images combine obscure technology, science fiction and childhood fantasy to call into question notions regarding memory, nostalgia, imagination and pulp/cyber folklore. Davis creates images that he hopes will cause the viewer to pause and question while at the same time provide a pathway for the viewer into another frame of thought-to proactively imagine. Sam Davis has worked as a Graphic Artist for WSRE-TV in Pensacola, as a studio assistant for Jerry Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor. Sam served for six years as full-time faculty/Instructor of Photography at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena California and for three years as Full-time Visiting Faculty at Ringling College of Art and Design. While not teaching he actively exhibits artwork across the United States and abroad. Sam is currently Associate Professor of Photography at Southern Utah University where he has lived for the past ten years.

We welcome a diverse array of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, digital, video, and more. Click the link in bio to apply!
If selected for the exhibition, the student's work will be displayed in the gallery and judged anew for a juror's choice award. Three students will be awarded a juror's choice award along with a cash prize. This year's juror is Sam Davis, an Associate Professor of Photography at Southern Utah University.

The Donna Beam Gallery presents the exhibition, Viva Las Vegas!, in recognition of the 60th anniversary of the film, Viva Las Vegas. This exhibition explores the city’s unique cultural identity through the work of 22 outstanding artists. They offer their distinctive riff on Las Vegas be it the people, the environment, the society, and more with their diverse media and subject matter. Viva Las Vegas! invites you to engage in the rich heritage and artistic license that help define our city's vibrant, and sometimes overwhelming, culture. Exhibiting artists include:
