“Red Rock in Winter” is an acrylic painting on a self-stretched 24x36” canvas that is now up for auction on the website until December. I’ve spent nearly 30 hours over the past month or so painting this view of Red Rock I so dearly love, especially when it’s dusted with snow. I took the photo that inspired this painting in 2019 after a February storm left Red Rock and the surrounding areas of Vegas blanketed in white. The contrast the snow provides to the view of the mountains is incredible!
Mt. Wilson, featured on the left, is the highest mountain of the Rainbow Mountain Wilderness of Nevada, at 7070 feet. Mt. Wilson rises 3,400 feet from the bottom of the desert floor. To the right of Wilson lies Rainbow Mountain, Juniper Peak, Mescalito, and Bridge Mountain on the far right. In between Mt. Wilson and Rainbow Peak lies Oak Creek Canyon and Mescalito lies within Pine Creek Canyon.
