For month, we're celebrating the work of local artist Hong Chun Zhang. Drawing from her experiences in the United States and traditional brushwork from China, Zhang works with layers of fine details. Each smooth strand of hair is meticulously portrayed and symbolizes her identity as an immigrant, woman, and mother. 📖🖌️

Happy birthday to Dorothea Lange, born this day in 1865! 🎂
Lange was best known for her portrait photographs during the Great Depression, capturing the hardships people endured along with their resilience. After opening her own successful portrait studio in San Francisco, Lange took to the streets at the start of the economic depression to raise awareness of the struggling farmers. 📸🌾

Today we're highlighting the “Affinities and Connections” section of our “Street Nihonga” exhibition. Happy birthday to Albrecht Dürer, born this day in 1471. 🎉

Durer revolutionized printmaking, extending its use to incorporate art and devotional images rather than solely for texts and books. Durer’s interest in human form and proportion can be seen in the way the bagpiper leans on this tree trunk.
