Governor Jonathan Trumbull House Museum and Wadsworth Stable

CT Daughter's of the American Revolution welcome you to the Governor Jonathan Trumbull House and Wadsworth Stable!

The house was the home of Governor Jonathan Trumbull (1710 – 1785), Connecticut’s patriot governor and the only colonial governor to support the American Revolution. Thanks to the efforts of “Brother Jonathan,” a nickname given to the Governor by General George Washington, Connecticut was able to send essential supplies to the army. It is also the birthplace of John Trumbull, America’s Patriot Art

ist, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Wadsworth Stable was originally located in downtown Hartford and was part of the Wadsworth estate. On September 20, 1780, Jeremiah Wadsworth hosted the first meeting between Washington and Rochambeau at his Hartford mansion. During this meeting Washington’s horses were housed in the Wadsworth Stable. Today, both buildings are open to the public as a museum dedicated to preserving the history, culture and influence of Governor Jonathan Trumbull and his family during the period of the American Revolution.

The Wadsworth Stable enjoyed a great and steady turnout last night during the Lebanon Green Holiday Event which held their annual light parade, bonfire and tree lighting event.

Thank you to Governor Jonathan Trumbull House Committee Managers and CTDAR Volunteers for greeting our guests with mulled cider, donuts, candy canes and passing out Pocket Constitutions & Preamble Bookmarks!

Wadsworth Stable holiday open house on Saturday November 29th 4-8pm.

Come visit the historic Lebanon Green during their Annual Tree Lighting Event Festivities and stop by the Wadsworth Stable for some hot cider, donuts & good cheer!

Wonderful celebration today of the 315th Birthday Anniversary of Governor Jonathan Trumbull at his Lebanon home with Connecticut Historian emeritus Walt Woodward and his presentation on John Trumbull the artist. Thank you to the GJTH/WS committee for their hard work and dedication for making the event a success, Vange Sargent for taking the wonderful pictures and Committee Mangers Valerie Chase & Becky Westcott for offering tours to the forty plus guests!

Last Friday, per an agreement set back in March by the CTDAR Melland Administration and approval by the current Mullen Administration, the Governor Jonathan Trumbull House and the Wadsworth Stable property exteriors were filmed by the 217 Film Company to be included in their tenth film:
“Glorious Morning: A Revolution Revealed,” which will be a film about the art of the American Rebellion and Revolution featuring the birthplace of the artist John Trumbull and some of the other historic buildings situated around the Lebanon Green. The professional film crew included filmmaker/actor Michael Maglaras and use of a drone as well and will be released Spring 2026.
