Leesburg First Friday is coming up on June 5! Loudoun Museum will be open extended hours from 4 to 7 p.m.

Stop by and make a paper quilt square and learn more about quilting and its historical connections to community and resilience. Our exhibits will also be open, so feel free to explore those, too!

Museum admission is free and all ages are welcome.

After the Civil War, communities across the country held displays and started traditions to pay tribute to fallen soldiers. “Decoration Day” eventually became a holiday adopted by each state for remembering those who died during the war.

Over time, the day became known as Memorial Day, and during WWI, it became a holiday to commemorate military personnel who died in all U.S. wars. In 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act establishing Memorial Day as the last Monday in May.

On this Memorial Day, Monday, May 25 we will be open extra hours from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. so you can visit and learn more about many Loudoun residents who served throughout history.
