Thanksgiving Point Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit farm, garden, and museum complex that draws upon the natural world to cultivate transformative family learning. Using the natural world as a springboard for exploration, Thanksgiving Point combines place and process to shape today’s problem solvers into tomorrow’s makers and innovators. Thanksgiving Point is located at the center of Utah’s popu

lation growth equidistant between Provo and Salt Lake City metro areas. Alan Ashton purchased the land for Thanksgiving Point on Valentine’s Day in 1995 as a gift. The creator of the groundbreaking software WordPerfect, Alan wanted to realize his beloved wife Karen’s dream of building a community gathering place. At the Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving Point, roam among the dinosaurs, explore a Carboniferous Forest, and dive deep into a Cretaceous Ocean at the Museum of Ancient Life. Come visit one of the world’s largest displays of mounted dinosaurs with 60 complete dinosaur skeletons in our galleries, along with more than 50 hands-on exhibits. This is the destination to enjoy learning about our pre-historic animals, playing with toy dinosaurs in the Erosion Table, and digging for fossils in the quarry dig.

Just ONE MORE WEEK until our story time returns to the dinosaur museum on Tuesdays! But until then, we still have Wednesday mornings in the Children's Garden, and here it is: Wednesday's is going to be pretty awesome. Like ELEPHANTS PAINTING PICTURES AWESOME. Okay, so no elephants are actually coming to visit (Darn!), but our book is about real elephants who really do paint pictures, just like in this video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZxSPSWxwjI

11 am Wednesday, August 28th, Children’s Discovery Garden
“Elephants Can Paint, Too!” by Katya Arnold
Elephants live in Asia. They eat three hundred pounds of food a day. They spray water out of their trunks. Even so, they are a lot like you. They like to eat cookies and hang out with their friends. They even like to paint pictures.
In this true story you'll learn about an amazing class of elephants that are taught to become artists by an amazing teacher.

Then we will make elephant finger puppets that you can take home... and use to finger paint like an elephant!

Tots! Tales for Tots is free with admission and for members and doesn't require registration... just show up at 11 am! While aimed are preschool age children (and their grownups!), there is no age requirement and all are welcome.

P.S. Don't forget, in September we are back to TWICE as many Tales! One on Tuesdays in the dinosaur museum and one on Wednesdays in the Children's Gardens! Just one more week of August to go! YAY!

This is a video of an elephant painting made by a friend who has recently visited Thailand. I had heard about elephants painting abstract pictures, but I did...
