Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum

Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum Open Daily Year Round! "Like" our page to be part of our updates, event announcements, and more! Ventfort Hall was the summer cottage of Sarah and George Morgan.

It was constructed between 1891 and 1893. The house has 28,000 square feet of living space in it, about 50 rooms. Ventfort Hall has been under restoration since 1997. In 1991 it was slated for demolition, during this time the paneling was stripped from the walls, and part of the roof collapsed. In June of 1997 it was rescued by the Ventfort Hall Association. The non-profit has slowly but surely been repairing the damage, as well as trying to establish a museum of the Gilded Age within its walls.

*POSTPONED - DATE TBA*

This week’s Salon Talk is on fun and games in the Gilded Age! What did people do for entertainment in the age before TV and cell phones? How did advancements in technology and manufacturing influence the way the leisure class spent their leisure time? Let’s take a look, literally, through the lens of time at stereographs, sports, and parlor games enjoyed by families like the Morgans as well as their working class neighbors.

Do you believe in ghosts? How do you feel about fairies? Explore these mysteries with me at two events I have coming up in the Berkshires this weekend.

Strange Fancies at Arrowhead in Pittsfield is a talk about the supernatural influences on the writings of Herman Melville and Nathaniel Hawthorne, followed by a lantern-lit ghost tour of the 18th century farmhouse. This will take place on Friday, May 29, at 6 and 8pm.

And the ghost tour at Ventfort Hall in Lenox is an immersive storytelling experience in an atmospheric Gilded Age mansion. This one will take place on Saturday, May 30, at 7pm.

Each event is unique, each location distinct. I hope to see you at one or both!

And I'd love to hear what you think! Post a comment with your take on these mysteries or any stories you may have.
