Gallery Episode is pleased to present, “Expressions,” a group exhibition that celebrates the diversity in ceramics as a medium. Curated by artist Christina Kim, “Expressions” showcases a vibrant collection of pottery from five exceptional artists, each sharing their unique voice and approach to working with clay.

The exhibition features the following five artists from the local New Jersey/New York area: Joyce Gamble, Christina Kim, Maria Lauren , Eileen Sackman, and Atsuko Watanabe. The pieces in the show reflect the artists' perspectives, deeply rooted in personal journey, beliefs, and cultural heritage. From traditional techniques to innovative experimentation, the collection features a diverse array of ceramic practices, including carving, surface decoration, sculpting, and wood-firing. The artists invite you to appreciate the various styles and the creativity expressed within this versatile medium.

“Expressions” will open on October 4, with an opening on Friday, October 4th from 7 to 9pm. The exhibition will be on view from October 4 to October 25, and is free and open to the public.

Gallery Episode is pleased to present “Summer Serenade: The Art of Warmth,” a group exhibition that celebrates the vibrant summer season. This exhibition will feature a selection of artworks that capture the essence of summer through a dynamic range of colors, textures, and themes. From the bright hues of blooming flowers to the shimmering heat of a midsummer day, each piece in this exhibition offers a unique interpretation of summer's spirit. It is a vivid exploration of the season's vitality, warmth, and radiant beauty.

To celebrate the opening of “Being Among Others – the City,” Gallery Episode will host an artist talk with American artist Robert Birmelin, a local Leonia resident of over 50 years. The event will take place on Saturday, April 6 at 3pm and is free and open to the public. Limited seating is available.

Birmelin will discuss his art practice, his philosophies when approaching his artwork, and inspirations for him as an artist. The talk will be held amidst the work on exhibit in “Being Among Others – the City.” Birmelin’s art is based on his experience of observing and being part of life in midtown New York City, where he maintained a studio for many years. Gallery Episode is excited to host this artist talk for artists and art enthusiasts from the Leonia community and beyond.

Robert Birmelin attended Cooper Union, Yale University School of Art, and the Slade School of the University of London and has been the recipient of many grants and fellowships. His extensive artistic career includes 43 one person shows in galleries and museums throughout the United States and internationally. His work is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, The Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, DC and others.

Gallery Episode is pleased to present “Being Among Others – the City,” a solo exhibition featuring American artist Robert Birmelin, a local resident of Leonia for 50 years. Robert Birmelin has attended the Cooper Union, the Yale University School of Art, and the Slade School of the University of London and has been the recipient of many grants and fellowships. His extensive artistic career includes 43 one person shows in galleries and museums throughout the United States and internationally. His work is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, The Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, DC and others. “Being Among Others – the City” is a mini retrospective, focusing on the theme of being among others. They are based on his experience of observing, and being part of life in midtown New York City, where he maintained a studio for many years. The paintings were done from the 1980s to the 2000s.

Robert Birmelin is pleased to have this opportunity to acquaint the Leonia community and others with an important chapter in his 70 years as an artist. “Being Among Others – the City” will open on March 26th, with an opening on Saturday, March 30th from 4 to 6pm. The exhibition will be on view from March 26 to April 13.
