Thanks to The Daily Item for their article about our collaboration with Bertrand Library at Bucknell University to preserve and digitize 50-year-old audio tapes interviews about local history and craft traditions! (Without paywall: https://dailyitem-cnhi.newsmemory.com/?publink=26e12737a_1351f90)

For the 1976 , the Union Co. Oral Traditions Project recorded interviews with dozens of local residents about their memories of daily life through the 20th century, and traditions like quilting, blacksmithing, and hunting--as well as topics like railroads, suffragettes, and one-room schoolhouses.

Today, alongside , UCHS and Bucknell University's Bertrand Library are commemorating the 2026 US by making digital copies of interview recordings and transcripts publicly available online.

The 1/4" audio tapes are so fragile they can only be safely preserved by a professional. To learn more about how you can Sponsor a Story and help make this possible, see our fundraising page here: https://givebutter.com/OTP2026

UCHS President Bruce Teeple will be presenting two separate programs entitled "Native Americans of Central Pennsylvania."

He will examine the Indigenous People of the Susquehanna Valley, the reasons why events in this region occurred during the 18th century, and how "land-grab" universities such as Cornell and Penn State benefited from the dubious acquisition and disposition of Native lands by the U.S. government.

The program, at either site, is free and open to the public.

There are two opportunities to hear the program:

Sunday, October 20, 1 PM at the Northumberland County Historical Society, 1150 N. Front St., Sunbury, PA

or

Sunday, November 17, 1 PM at The UCHS Gallery, 15 N. Water Street, Lewisburg, PA
