Opening June 27 at our new home at 1 Beech Street in Lewiston, Maine MILL’s first special exhibition will be A Common Bond: The Brick Journal, guest curated by Alexis Iammarino of Little Legs Projects

Rooted in Lewiston-Auburn’s long history of brickmaking, the exhibition explores the stories, labor, materials, and memories embedded within the bricks that helped build the cities we know today. Through contemporary artistic interpretation and historical research, The Brick Journal invites visitors to look closer at the everyday materials that shape place, industry, and community.

Today’s community planting day for the I Love You Gardens reminded us that remembrance can take many forms: flowers planted by hand, conversations shared between neighbors, and spaces created for reflection, healing, and care. 🌱

Maine MILL was honored to join artist and community volunteers in continuing this living memorial project created in response to October 25, 2023. The gardens, inspired by Hollander’s larger memorial and archival work surrounding grief, trauma, and collective memory, continue to grow across Lewiston and Auburn as places for the community to gather, remember, and heal together.

As an organization dedicated to preserving the stories, history, and lived experiences of this region, Maine MILL recognizes how important it is to create spaces where memory is held with care and where community can continue to move forward together.

Thank you to everyone who showed up today to plant, volunteer, and support this meaningful work. Learn more about the project at iloveyougardens.com

Designing a space that honors history while creating room for the future takes a thoughtful vision and deep care for place.

We’re grateful to collaborate with the architecture firm behind the design of the new location. Their work thoughtfully preserves the character of the historic mill space while helping shape an environment that invites community, creativity, learning, and connection for generations to come. This project, and all of the architecture, has been rooted in the belief that history should be experienced, not just displayed.

We can’t wait to welcome you into the new Maine MILL and share the incredible work that helped bring this vision to life.

As part of our mission to preserve the history and heritage of the region, Maine MILL is also home to the October 25, 2023 Memorial and Archive.

This growing archive honors the lives impacted by the tragedy through objects, artwork, photographs, written reflections, and community contributions that speak to grief, resilience, and remembrance. It exists not only as a record of what happened, but as a space for collective memory and healing.

As we prepare to open our new museum space, we remain deeply committed to preserving the full story of this community, its history, its people, and the moments that continue to shape it.
