Vicki Harris-Thomas wrote this poem to coincide with the drawing:

This has got to be one of the most beautiful gifts I have ever received. If what they say is true and it really is the thought that counts then this must be worth a million dollars. Looking at this hand drawn (not AI) piece of art, I can not help but consider how much thought Alexys Vaulkenroth Wolf put into the details of this masterpiece. I sent Alexys a picture of me as a little girl and a picture of me now and told her I wanted to bring the two "me's" together for a few deeply emotional reasons. The most important being the fact that I wanted to honor the little girl on the left for all she did to survive an unimaginable childhood. I wanted her to know she did not have to stay stuck and she has permission to step out of the past and live now. Alexys Vaulkenroth Wolf I love you for this and a million other reasons. Even more, I thank God for your incredible talent and your bottomless heart.

She's Still In There
By Victoria The Poet

She’s still in there
And she’s simply waiting on permission
Waiting on your decision
To let her come out and play
To tell her she is safe and everything’s OK
She’s still in there
Just tell her to come out and play

You see, she’s been afraid of all of the alarms
Afraid if she comes out she’ll be harmed

Afraid she may face danger
Afraid she’ll stand in the face of anger

She’s spent so much of her life
Living in pain
And living in spite

Living in spite of herself
Disguising herself
Despising herself

Locking herself inside
becoming a prisoner of her pride
Afraid to make mistakes
Never allowing her dreams to wake

She’s still in there
Tell her to come outside
Tell her freedom is no longer denied
Tell her to look to the sun
Tell her the day has just begun
Tell her to stand in her light
Tell her to trust she knows what is right
Tell her to run
Tell her to play
Tell her she is safe, and all is OK

Tell her to do, tell her to be
Tell her to do... be ...do be do
To write her own song
As the world sings along
Then tell her to dance, to take a chance

To take a chance on herself
To take her dreams off the shelf
To bring them outside and play
To chase all of her fears away

Tell her to rest, tell her to breathe
Tell her you promise to meet her needs

She’s still in there
Just Tell her to come out and play

After 8 months, I'm back to my art! Working on a colored pencil portrait. We'll see how it goes. I haven't used colored pencils since 1995! Stay tuned!
