Hi History Fans!

Our good neighbor to the west is home to this impressive WWI doughboy statue, standing at the corner of Florence and Main in Tyrone, Oklahoma. The monument's text reads: “This monument erected by the people of Tyrone for the American Legion. In honor of the Veterans of the World War both living and dead."

This statue was installed on May 30, 1921. It has unfortunately suffered from vandals over the years, but still stands noble and tall as a great tribute to our Veterans from the folks of Tyrone.

Hi History Fans!

Railfan and Photographer August Thieme captured this Rock Island caboose in the Liberal yard in 1948. Caboose #17866 featured a cupola for better viewing, McHenry knuckle couplers, an interior coal stove, and sleeping bunks for the crew. Cabooses are now largely a thing of the past, but this particular car and number live on in many a model railroader’s layout.

Hi History Fans!

Today is Liberal's Birthday!

We all know the story of the "mighty liberal" Seymour Rogers, and today saw the first lot sales of the town named in his honor. Liberal began as one town out of many, but within a few years it found its way to the county seat, a coveted railroad line, and the kind of residents who would stick with it even through the trying times at the turn of the century.

Happy Birthday, Liberal!
