The Coronado Museum was established in 1961 through the efforts of four Liberal, KS businessmen - Robert Baughman, Fred Hill, Lewis Eyman and Oliver brown - aided by Auburn Light and Harry Chrisman. It is housed in a landmark structure originally build in 1918 as the residence of the Lee Larrabee family, the building retains the warmth and style of an early Western home. The Coronado Museum is nam

ed after the explorer Don Francisco Vasquez de Coronado. The museum has a horse bridle bit from Coronado’s expedition that passed through Southwest Kansas in 1541. The museum also has a Rotating Exhibit Room, the First 40 years of Seward County Exhibit, a Victorian Room Exhibit, a Native American Exhibit, an Old Fashion Doctor’s Office Exhibit and a Communication Room Exhibit. The Coronado Museum also houses the Dorothy’s House Gift Shop. The mission of the Seward County Historical Society is to provide enrichment, enjoyment, and education for residents and visitors through the preservation of regional history and the Land of Oz.
