The Limon Heritage Society’s 2026 Gala proved to be a wonderful night of food and entertainment! This year’s event occurred on the evening of Saturday, April 18th, at the Hub City Senior Center.

Brenda Higgins was honored as the 2025 Volunteer of the Year. She is one of the museum's longest serving volunteers. In fact, she got enthused even before there was a museum! Brenda has been a loyal leader in everything we have asked her to do through all these years and we are proud to name her our 2025 Volunteer of the Year!

Ken Valles was the guest speaker for the evening. His insights of historic Chapel Cars were intriguing and shed light on a little-known part of the American West and Limon’s history .

A delicious BBQ buffet was catered by Oscars Bar & Grille, much to the delight of all who attended.

If you didn’t make it to this year’s Gala, we’ll see you at next year!

This newspaper article (date of article unknown) appeared in the Limon Leader:

"THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH of Limon had its beginning in this Chapel car, the Evangel. The car was parked on the siding in Limon about 1914. The Rev. Blintzinger, according to a new book "Where the Wagons Rolled," was the missionary and he and his family lived in one end of the old railroad car. The Evangel had been set up by the Northern Baptist Home Mission Society. The Limon church was first called into being with about 14 members in 1915. Mrs. Frances (Taylor) Monks, wife of Dave Monks of Limon, is shown standing in front of the car when she was quite a young girl. Photo belongs to the Dave Monks' family."

Learn more about these historic Railroad Chapel Cars from lecturer Ken Valles at our upcoming Gala. A BBQ buffet will be catered by Oscars Bar & Grille and the Volunteer of the Year award will also be presented. Make your reservations now by calling the museum office at 719-775-8894!
