This we are spotlighting one of the Entomology department's awesome interns, Reghan Cline! Recently, Reghan has been working on organizing and labeling specimens in a donated collection, while also creating a personal collection of insects from Nebraska and Oregon. Reghan has loved working hands-on and examining the insects up close in this internship.

Reghan's favorite entomology fact is that stick bug eggs mimic seeds so that ants bring them into their colony. Once they hatch, they mimic an ant and live amongst them until they are ready to leave the colony! 🐜

Drop your favorite ento fun fact in the comments!

Exciting news! Our new temporary exhibit, In Search of Earth's Secrets, is now open!

In this exhibit you can explore the wonders beneath the seafloor and use interactive activities to visit the place humans are just beginning to explore. Learn about the life that lives deep in the ocean and how Earth's plates shape the seafloor.

The perfect time to explore this new addition is during Archie's Party this Saturday! This exhibit is included with admission.

Keep an eye out for the blue moon this Sunday! The moon will peak in Lincoln at 3:45 a.m. on May 31. This is the second full moon of the month making it a calendar blue moon, which will not occur again until New Year's Eve in 2028. This is truly a once in a blue moon occurrence. πŸŒ•

Happy ! This week, some of our new summer camp staff took a gallery tour of the Paleozoic Era and fossils of Nebraska. On this tour, they learned the process of fossilization and why something becomes fossilized. They also got a close look at some modern specimens and fossilized coral.

If you want to learn more about this era of Nebraska under the sea, visit Morrill Hall and explore the Paleozoic Gallery!

Happy ! One of the masks we recently unboxed is beautifully constructed of multiple materials. The face of the mask is metal, the sides and top are made of woven fabric, and it is beaded all over with shells and glass beads. We believe the mask is from the Kuba people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is similar in style to Kuba bwoom masks, but lacks the typical enlarged forehead.
