Over the past five years, the staff of South of Downtown Community Development Organization (SDCDO) has been proud to serve and strengthen the Everett and Near South neighborhoods alongside our neighbors and community partners. It is with a heavy heart that we announce that all SDCDO staff are stepping down from the organization at the end of 2021. This includes Isabel Salas, Director of Community Engagement; Kat Wiese, Community Arts Organizer; Allie Christianson, Community Organizer; and Shawn Ryba, Executive Director. We do this with confidence in the tools, resources, collective knowledge, leadership and relationships that exist in the Everett and Near South neighborhoods. We appreciate everyone at every level who advocated for neighbors, centered their lived experience, and focused efforts to build on our neighborhoods’ abundance of beauty. This work has always lived within our shared community, being driven by and for neighbors since before we even started with you all. We have faith that everything we had been advocating for together will continue no matter what the next year holds.

We wrote you a letter sharing this news, which you can read at https://lincolnsouthdowntown.org/news-events/news.html/article/2021/12/23/a-letter-from-sdcdo-staff (link in bio), and we also would like to share a Year in Review report. This details all the amazing things we did together this past year, and you can read it at https://lincolnsouthdowntown.org/news-events/news.html (link in bio).

With gratitude,
Your friends at South of Downtown CDO

Nearly 2 years after the removal of ash trees from 11th Street, Welcome to the Table is a warm embrace of the trees that had brought shade and comfort to our landscape for decades. Presenting student artwork from Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) high school classrooms made with repurposed lumber and artwork from LPS Arts & Humanities, we welcome you to the tables made by our youth to celebrate the creativity and wonder that change spurs us to make, repurposed.

With three shades of terracotta geometric shapes in the background and lavender, pink, yellow, and white organic shapes and defined hearts at the front, the digital art piece reflects on the quote, which is overlaid on top, "Love Is A Great Beautifier" by Louisa May Alcott. Two hands embrace the quote, reaching over from the left. The image is laid on top of a cream background, which has brown text overlaid atop, "Welcome to the Table: Art Walk with LPS" at the top left of the image and "DEC 10th 5-7 PM 1247 S 11th St" at the lower right.)

We're so excited to see you this Friday for our 2nd Friday Art Walk with LPS: Welcome to the Table! Featuring student artwork from the American Love Project and wooden pieces made with repurposed ash wood and other local trees, Welcome to the Table celebrates the creativity and wonder that change spurs us to make, often in forms repurposed.

Years after neighborhood ash trees were removed due to the emerald ash borer, LPS students are repurposing their fallen lumber to bring our trees back home in forms of furniture for gathering, resting, and just being. It is such an honor to share space with these talented student artists and to share their art with y'all this Friday!

Help us celebrate our LPS students this Friday from 5 to 7 PM at the South of Downtown Art Hub, located at 1247 S 11th St! We'll have live music from Taylor Moates (), and across the street, Pepe's Bistro () and Coffee Tech Central () will have delicious vegan dinner + coffee tastings!
