Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center

Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center Non-profit sports education center and tribute to life and career of American icon Yogi Berra.
(1)

Since officially opening its doors on Dec. 4, 1998, with students and teachers from the Bradford Academy in Montclair being the first public visitors, the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center has become a hugely popular destination for sports fans and educators alike. It is also recognized as the New York metropolitan area’s premier sports education center. After an extensive renovation in 2011, it

has grown into the New York metropolitan area’s premier sports education center. The YBMLC is an engaging walk through the life and career of one of the most beloved sports figures of all time – as well as the most quoted American. From growing up in the Great Depression to his service during World War II to his legendary career as catcher of the Yankees’ dynasty from the late 1940s to early ’60s, Yogi Berra’s values and character have made him the great American success story. The Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center – which empowers students through year-round character-based programs – is a poignant reminder to young people that they, too, can be anything they want to be. Educational programs are created in collaboration with faculty from Montclair State University as well as professionals in the world of sports, business and the arts.

A rare look at one of our artifacts from the archives, and it’s currently on loan at the American Museum of Natural History! Yogi’s Babe Ruth Crown is part of their new exhibition For the Win: Objects of Sports Excellence. Located in their Hall of Gems and Minerals, this exhibition is included with admission, and is the first time his crown has been on display outside of our Museum. Check it out!

Happy birthday, Yogi! Today we are celebrating the life and legacy of our icon, and his biggest wish which was to see students in his Museum receiving the education he wasn’t able to finish. Help us bring underserved students to Yogi’s favorite place this year. It ain’t over! 🎂

The Museum is devastated to hear of the loss of a legend and our friend, John Sterling. Besides being the voice of Yankee radio for 30+ years, he was a fantastic man, father and friend. We send all our love to everyone who was privileged to know him.

Yogi had a lot of cherished friendships in his lifetime, and John McMullen was one of the best and he is up for induction into the New Jersey Hall of Fame! John is the reason the are here; in 1982, he brought the team to the Garden State and the rest is history. John McMullen grew up in Montclair and was a New Jerseyan through and through. Please VOTE for John McMullen in the Sports category and help get him inducted!
