Yesterday was a powerful and historic day at the Daisy Bates House.

The Arkansas Commission for the nation’s 250th birthday officially dedicated the Daisy Bates House as one of the 11 most significant locations in Arkansas over the past 250 years. This recognition affirms what we have always known — that this home is sacred ground in the story of civil rights and education in our state.

We were honored to welcome Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who joined community leaders, supporters, and Foundation members for the dedication ceremony on the front lawn of 1207 W. 28th Street.

From this home, Daisy Gatson Bates helped change the course of Arkansas history. Yesterday’s dedication ensures that her courage, leadership, and legacy will continue to be recognized for generations to come.

Thank you to the Arkansas 250 Commission, our supporters, and everyone who came out to witness this meaningful moment.

Because of her, we can.

Today, we proudly welcomed 47 students from the University of Wisconsin–Madison as part of their annual Civil Rights Tour.

We are honored that they continue to choose the Daisy Bates House Museum as a meaningful stop each year. Hosting students who are committed to learning, reflection, and the ongoing work of justice is at the heart of our mission.

Thank you for spending time with us and carrying the legacy of Daisy and L.C. Bates forward.
