Hello again! I’m back after a break from social media. All is well at the farm with the blueberry fields blanketed in protective layer of snow. At times it’s been a bit too wintery to continue the annual task of pruning the berry bushes. So I’ve been enjoying more time to X-country ski and snowshoe. It helps break up all the indoor work and planning for the coming season. More about that soon. I hope you’ve been able to get outside too this winter. It is so beautiful!

To Everything there is a season......

For us at Hog Shed Studio Pottery, 2025 has been a season of many changes. We have spent lots of time with our daughter, Megan, and her husband and our two grandchildren. Watching the boys grow and develop has been a truly enriching experience for us, and we feel privileged to be a part of their lives. This has become so important to us that we have purchased a house in Mahopac, NY, a mere 15 minutes away from them! Sadly, the new house is at least 6 hours east of Otto, so we have spent many hours on the road!

This has meant a lot of time away from our home and studio, and so studio hours and production have been shortened. Elliott has continued to work during our days back on the farm, but the flow of production that we shared for so many years has been greatly reduced and so the retail display room at Hog Shed Studio Pottery, while still offering a selection of wonderful creations, is a less filled than in seasons past. We are still planning to be open by appointment, but as we spend more time off the farm, the appointments will take a little more co-ordination!

We are now in the process of moving. Our new home will include studio space for Elliott. She plans a new phase of production using an electric kiln, which produces different glaze effects than the gas fired kilns which we have used since 1982. New challenges and new creative opportunities will be the watchwords for Elliott’s continuing career. Unfortunately, with all the demands of our time this fall, we do not plan to have a Holiday Open House this year.

We are so grateful to all our loyal customers who have supported us at Hog Shed Studio Pottery over the past 43 years! We hope you will keep in touch by phone or email through the contact page on our website.

Thanks to everyone who turned out for our Holiday Open Studio last weekend! We had a tremendous turnout, and as always it was a real pleasure to see so many loyal friends and customers.

After my first post-op visit... up and about and very grateful for the good care I have received. My loving family has helped me get through every moment of this with the greatest kindness and care. I feel so lucky to be surrounded and supported by my wonderful family!

Last week this was me. Status post open dislocation of my (dominant side) left elbow! Thanks to the speedy response from EMS and becoming the guest of honor at a trauma code, I am having a good recovery. Cast is off, mechanical support in place and I'm comfortable and up and about.
Great care was provided by Westchester Medical Center and my excellent orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Adam Shaner. In the ER, my Nurse, James did an incredible job. Post op care by Nurse Ken, Floor Nurses Mary, Gene, and Peter and so many other people that I can't recall all their names. To each and everyone of them a heartfelt "THANK YOU!"

The new season is upon us, and we have been balancing our time between gardening, visiting our grandchildren and, as always, squeezing in some hours for producing pottery. We have had our first firing of 2024, and the results are great! Once again our showroom is filled with the pottery that has been so well received by our loyal customers.
Elliott continues working at a more relaxed pace, while still finding a way to use her creative energies to produce our well loved functional and decorative pottery pieces. Elliott has also been participating in the Scott Creek Collaborative, where she has the chance to contribute to wood firing and soda firing methods of pottery production.
As part of our effort to simplify our lives and step back from full time business, we will not be participating in any art shows or festivals this year. Instead, we are open by chance or appointment. If you see our “OPEN” flag waving out at the roadside, you can be sure that we are home!

At Hog Shed Studio Pottery, we have just finished unloading our final firing for 2023, and the results are truly gratifying!

As it turns our, total retirement is something that Elliott was not quite ready to embrace.

So while we are no longer keeping regular daily business hours, HOG SHED STUDIO POTTERY remains OPEN!

We are still creating many of our well loved functional and decorative pottery items and we welcome you to come by appointment ( Call 716-244-2967) or by chance to see what is available in our studio showroom.

After several recent firings, the shelves are beginning to look festive for the holiday season. Snowmen, vases, trees and ornaments are now on display.

We will be open on Saturday and Sunday, November 4 & 5 from 10 am to 5 pm.
