Who doesn't like to peek into a neighbor's garden?👀🍀

The Garden Conservancy's Open Day Program provides special access to Denver home gardens, including three spots designed by the Gardens' horticulturists, on Saturday, June 13, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.! Additional Denver gardens and locations in other counties are open in June and September. "In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow, Between the crosses, row on row..."

The red poppy has become a national and global symbol of remembrance and on Memorial Day it is shared and worn to remind us of our fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The quote is from the poem "In Flanders Field" written in 1915 by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, M.D. who served on the front lines of World War I. It references the red poppies he saw bloom amongst rubble and bloodshed across battlefields in Belgium. The poem was published and its popularity aided the red poppy in becoming a symbol of remembrance across many nations.

The Gardens' York Street and Chatfield Farms locations are open regular hours today, May 25.

“While DBG might be new to McGinnis, she’s not new to it. ‘This institution is so admired in the garden industry,” she says. “It’s one of the biggest in the world in terms of attendance, but it’s also really out front in a number of things in our field that really resonate with me.’

She lists DBG’s work in water conservation, ecological restoration, educational opportunities and a strong volunteer force. ‘It’s also known for really striving to be connected to its community and really striving to make sure everyone is welcome and has the chance to come,’ she adds.”

She started the job in February, following a search to fill the position after the death of longtime CEO Brian Vogt.
