Actor Woody Harrelson’s father, Charles Harrelson, was a convicted hitman who received a life sentence for killing a federal judge in 1979. He also repeatedly claimed to have been the real assassin of John F. Kennedy.

Charles Harrelson was convicted of shooting U.S. District Judge John H. Wood Jr. on May 29, 1979, outside his San Antonio, Texas, home. Known as "Maximum John" for his strict drug-trafficking sentences, Wood was the first federal judge to be murdered in the 20th century.
