The Yellowstone Gateway Museum will be closed Monday, October 12, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and Tuesday, October 13, for staff development.

As we recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the Indigenous peoples whose histories, cultures, and continuing connections to this landscape are an essential part of Park County’s story.

We’ll resume regular hours on Wednesday, October 14. Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you at the museum!

We’re excited to join the Auster Montana Open House on October 4! The Yellowstone Gateway Museum will be there with pieces from our teaching collection to explore the people and animals that have called Paradise Valley and Park County home for thousands of years, and still do today.

Stop by to take a closer look, ask questions, and discover how life in this remarkable landscape has changed over time. We’d love to share some stories, hear your questions, and learn together. If you can make it, be sure to come see us!

It all kicks off tonight at the Shane Lalani Center for the Arts!

Join the Yellowstone Gateway Museum Foundation at 7:00 p.m. for a free presentation by Casey Anderson, In the Tracks of the Grizzly: People, Wilderness and the Future of Montana.

Casey will explore the long and evolving relationship between people, grizzlies, and the landscapes we share, helping us think about what coexistence has looked like in the past and what it may mean for the future of Montana.

Tonight’s lecture is free and open to the public. We hope you’ll join us as we kick off Griz Week!

With bears making appearances in town and around Park County this year, it’s a great time to brush up on your bear awareness! Join the Yellowstone Gateway Museum and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks on Friday, September 25, at 5:30 p.m. at the Blake Pavilion to learn more about sharing the landscape with bears. You’ll even get to practice your bear spray skills using non-toxic training spray and a charging mechanical bear!

Dan Bailey’s will offer bear spray at discounted prices, and the YGMF will hold a free raffle drawing for a door prize courtesy of Dan Bailey’s. Come refresh your knowledge, build your confidence, and learn how we can help keep both people and bears safe this fall!

For generations, people and grizzlies have shared the landscapes of Park County and the Greater Yellowstone region, and that relationship has never been static. As communities, working lands, recreation, and wildlife all continue to change, so too have the ways we understand bears and the strategies we use to live alongside them.

The Yellowstone Gateway Museum Foundation’s Grizzly Ecology Field Trip to Tom Miner Basin is a chance to explore this evolving relationship firsthand. Participants will learn about grizzly ecology, conflict-reduction techniques, and wildlife movement, while looking at the practical ways people are working to maintain both healthy communities and healthy wildlife populations in a landscape shared by both.

This is more than a field trip about bears. It is an opportunity to think about how generations of people have adapted to living in grizzly country, what we have learned along the way, and what coexistence may look like in the future.

There are only a few tickets left for Saturday, September 26. If you have been thinking about joining us, now is the time to reserve your place for this special afternoon and evening in Tom Miner Basin. Tickets are $150 per person, include a catered dinner, and space is limited.
