New exhibit at Polk County Memorial Museum through Saturday, February 28th:
The Four Chaplains
On February 3, 1943, four Army chaplains of different faiths banded together to support military and civilian personnel aboard the USSAT Dorchester after the transport ship was torpedoed by a German submarine. Their heroic actions during chaos and strife aboard the sinking ship encouraged and inspired the survivors, even as they lost their own lives. Come read about The Four Chaplains, the first in a series of exhibits on American heroes in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
