Just bought a set of commemorative playing cards, made in 1951 for the 250th anniversary of Detroit . Given as a gift from the Krueger Barns Corp. Each card is a historic view of Detroit.
Mr. Henry R Krueger, of 51 Clairview Rd, died Tuesday, May 16, 1961 In Henry Ford Hospital. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he lived in the Detroit area for 52 years, He was 73. Mr. Krueger retired last year from his position as president of the Krueger-Barnes Corporation.' For his contributions during World War II as an inventor, machine tool genius, and a 'master of mass production, he was cited by both the governments of the United States and Canada. The citations were' awarded in recognition of Mr. Krueger's work in perfecting a machine to increase rifle production' from five to 50 an hour. He also developed a machine which produced parts for the first atomic bomb. Mr. Krueger's formal education ended with the fourth grade. He quickly overcame this Jack and went on to invent some of the original machine tools and transfer machines for the early auto industry. Around World War I, he founded his own production machinery firm, the Krueger Wayne Company which was sold in 1929 to the Ex.Cell.O Corp. In 1933 he founded H, R. Krueger Company which became the Krueger Barnes Corporation In 1943. Mr. Krueger was a member of the Detroit Athletic Club and the City of Straits Lodge, Services were Saturday, May 20. at the A. H, Peters Funeral Home. interment was in Roseland Park Cemetery. Survivors included his wife, Elsie. and a sister, Mrs, Ann Middleton, of Springfield, Ohio.
