Erie Canal Discovery Center The History of the Erie Canal A fun place to learn more about how the Erie Canal changed the face of America.

Exhibits include an introductory virtual reality boat ride through the locks, working lock model, find hidden treasures in the rock wall, canallers, Locportians, Kids Korner and much more. Also home to the Penney Gallery, featuring the 5,000 piece Niagara Collection of art, artifiacts and archival items from the late Charles Rand Penney.

‼️TW: Major bummer ahead

Because of all this relentless rain and the overall vibe kill in Eastern + Central NY, the Canal System will open in phases beginning May 16. Up first is Lock E-28A (Lyons) to Locks E-34 (Lockport). More to come!
