Spring Garden Tour Opening 2017
Saturday, April 29, 2017

The Locustville Academy schoolhouse and museum will be open for Spring Garden Tour on April 29th, 2017 from 9 AM to 3 PM. The Academy has recently been placed on the National Register of Historical Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register.
Locustville Academy is the only preserved ante-bellum schoolhouse on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Unlike some other private schools on the Shore, it was open not simply to boys, but also to girls, and was established by local citizens “for the betterment of the community.” The school opened in 1859. It is now a non-profit museum and all donations are fully deductible.
This year the Academy proudly presents a display of handmade quilts made by a family member of one of the Academy’s founder’s. These quilts may be purchased through a silent auction which will be on-going until June 30th. Bids may be entered that day, or the quilts will be available for examination and bidding by contacting B. Reiger.
To celebrate Spring Garden Tour on April 29th, there will be a Bake Sale, a plant sale as well as the “Locustville Academy chicken salad” for $7.50 a pint. The salad may be ordered in advance or purchased that day at the schoolhouse.
The schoolhouse is located 28055 Drummondtown Road in Locustville. For questions or to place orders, please call in the evening only, contact B. Reiger at 757-787-7480.
