Today we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Erected in 1926, this monument in Astoria Park is dedicated to the 101 men from Long Island City who died in World War I.

The Jane's Walk Astoria tour last Saturday was the last glimpse many had of the First Reformed steeple in place; it was removed today, with the remainder of the structure to follow.

Our boardmember Alan Arichavala’s update on the First Reformed Church. We need to come together and email our elected officials to continue efforts saving the church, at the very least, save parts of it from demolition including the steeple. Tomorrow, the church will be scheduled for demolition.

Now remember, there is a cemetary out back of the church.

Now remember, there is a cemetary out back of the church.

Most historians believe the grave of Astoria’s founding father Stephen Halsey is somewhere in Astoria; but finding where is the difficulty.

You are what makes New York Special!

Your Friends at Greater Astoria Historical

Yesterday my busking spot was sandwiched between 2 friends: before me was Gabriel Aldort who plays keyboard and sings. I haven't seen him in years, even though we are both busking the same MTA Arts & Design MUNY system. I enjoyed hearing him sing familiar songs but invent his own melodies to them in a way that is refreshing. After me was G Wyll, who plays guitar and sings. I see him often and it is always nice to see him. I don't get to hear him play much, because by the time he is set up, I have already packed up and left.
In the photo: G Wyll and me in the handing over of the busking spot. I love how it says 'New York' on the bottom of his hat's visor. I have never seen a message on the bottom part of a visor before.
Stay warm, folks - it is cold out there!
