LEARNING AT LUNCH: SHOUT!

Whose voices shaped the fight for women’s suffrage? Join us at the Workhouse on Friday, October 16, for SHOUT!, a special presentation by poet Susanna Rich.

Through original, historically researched poetry, Rich brings the voices of key suffragists to life, including women incarcerated at the Occoquan Workhouse in 1917. Hear their stories, explore this pivotal chapter in history, and experience the past through the power of poetry.

✍️ A book signing with Susanna Rich will follow the talk!

📅 Friday, October 16
⏰ 12–1 PM
📍 McGuireWoods Gallery, 2nd Floor, Building W-16
🎟️ FREE admission — no registration required!

Bring your lunch, join the conversation, and discover the stories behind the fight for equality.

Check out this article in the Fairfax County Times by Kristin Johnson.

It features the exhibition "TRANSFORMATIONS: Documenting the Pilot Substance Abuse Program at Lorton Reformatory, 1989–1991," currently on display at the Workhouse Arts Center.

In 1989, The Washington City Paper commissioned photographer Lloyd Wolf Lloyd Wolf to photograph the men in the Pilot Substance Abuse Program (PSAP) at Lorton Prison. The article was written by journalist Jon Cohen. The photos were intended to accompany the story.

The exhibition is curated by Sarah Berry and runs through Nov. 7.
