Spanning the systemic injustices, racism, and political turmoil that have long plagued the nation, Francesca Bifulco tears the Band-Aid off and confronts us with a series of inequities from the Indigenous Peoples to the event that incited this series: the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder.

We are SUPER EXCITED to present Francesca Bifulco: Ignited States of America, a dynamic, immersive solo exhibit born in the wake of the current socio-political upheaval wreaking havoc across the United States.

In her new body of work – comprised of paintings, sculpture, installation, and performance – Bifulco expands on her 2020 series with an unbridled fury that is as aggressive and striking as the very topics she investigates. Now, she navigates far more aggressive waters, chronicling some of the US’s most divisive topics – abortion, gun violence, war, White nationalism, Christian fundamentalism, LGBTQIA+ rights, Indigenous Peoples, racism, and political hypocrisy.

Oct. 5, 6-9 pm!

Los Angeles’ sprawling landscape has a way of captivating and intimidating natives, visitors, and transplants alike. How Angelenos exist within the natural and urban environs is explored in the site-specific installation, "Sky Drop" by Jessie Mahon.

“The unique beauty of Los Angeles is a result of its people and its landscape. This duality also creates a central paradox: as the city expands to accommodate its residents and maintain its global impact, its landscape is inevitably interrupted. The city’s people become a part of its scenery – all of us taking in the same view.”

The complexities of Los Angeles are explored in SPACELAND VII :: Return to Spaceland, Bermudez Projects’ long-running, multi-exhibit storyline. In this iteration, gallery artists return and celebrate all that makes the City of Angels a place we call/once called/will call again, home. Featuring a range of media by 10 artists, this biennial group exhibit is a consideration of the myriad aspects and themes beckoning us to this city.
