Did you know the current Surrender plaque onboard the Battleship Missouri holds a special connection to her crew?

When the original plaque became worn, recommissioning crewmembers were invited to contribute their own pennies, symbols of luck and unity. Each coin was carefully cut and melted into the new plaque, ensuring every crew member’s “lucky penny” became part of history.

Mounted in 1989, this plaque stands as a lasting symbol of the Mighty Mo’s spirit and the people who served aboard her.
