Currently on view in our group exhibition 𝙄𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙢𝙮 𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙚, 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙜𝙤 𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙮, Inka Essenhigh, "Old Trees in Fall," 2018.

Essenhigh's paintings are infused with a dreamlike, surreal sensibility. The artist has described wanting to paint, "what is unseen, to find the life within things and animate them." This force, these "secret rules" in her paintings might, in part, be thought of as natural occurrences that in the past could have been explained through stories linked to divinity or paranormal.

Poet and multimedia artist, Nicole Della Costa wrote this concrete poem (pictured above) taking inspiration from a pair of blossoms specifically for the exhibition.

Della Costa is a poet and multimedia artist practicing in writing, performance, and video. She is the author of As Serious as a Hiccup published by Pois é and has self-published two books of poetry, En+Theos and Ask Me About the Secret Poetry Club, from a series of poetry readings held at the bookstore at Pioneer Works in New York. Selected editorial contributions include Introducing The Beggar (edited by Sonny Hall), Nick Knight’s SHOWstudio, Worms Magazine, and A Part Magazine. She is the founder of The Poetry Bank, a non-profit poetry sharing platform geared at amplifying and circulating poetry that mimics an offline exchange of poems. Della Costa lives and works in New York City, NY.

Angela Lane paints postcard-size landscapes, aligning herself with the art historical tradition of depicting environments of celestial and mysterious phenomena. Robust pastoral beauty, bathed in soft light or cloaked in fog, is offset by dramatic eclipses, comets, or twin suns. These phenomenons suggest a range of mirages and visions open to broad interpretation, which in Lane’s words “leave the events in the paintings to be their own messengers.”
