When I mentioned the other day that it's been a roller coaster of a month, I wasn't kidding. Just 24 hours after my guy and I tied the knot, I said goodbye to my dear Fitzo dog.
Really, I'd been saying goodbye to him for the last few months. It was tough to see my fierce and fiery little guy lose interest in all his favorite things, but I did get him to eat some of his favorite cheese on Tuesday.
The house is empty without him. Alfonso and I both keep calling his name and his water and food bowl are still out. He was small in size but huge in personality and attitude.
In the two years that he lived with us he traveled throughout California and visited Arizona multiple times, and vacationed in Oregon and Washington. He learned to ride calmly in cars, trucks and airplanes. He went from being Cujo on a leash to walking completely off leash.
He was my friend and he made me walk for miles and miles. He smelled all the flowers -and bushes and poles and dirt mounds -and made me slow the f**k down and think about life while we took our long walks.
Thank you Fitzo for letting me love you. I learned to love you on your terms until you learned to love me, our life, and our people. I was witness to seeing you express love and I am the better for it. Run free off leash my little Fitzo-the-Fitzo-pants. I know you are with our pal Vicki now. Say hello to our Mr. Rudeboy Tommy the Cactus Gallery Dog.
