In this photography entitled Hunting Squaw, HervĆ© Lewis explores the tension between vulnerability and power. Bathed in golden light, the female figure appears both timeless and untamed — a modern warrior suspended between mythology, fashion, and fine art.

The Core presents ā€œHabitat: Beneath the Desert’s Menace,ā€ a site-specific installation by Dutch artist Eelco Hilgersom conceived for the raw expanse of the desert landscape surrounding Las Vegas, Nevada.

A luminous, biomorphic form rises from the cracked ground, its iridescent surface echoing organisms shaped by exposure and survival. As the light drops, the sculpture begins to glow, watchful and slightly dangerous, holding the same tension as the landscape around it. It tracks the conditions that shape life here, where scarcity and exposure demand constant adaptation.

ā€œHabitatā€ by Eelco Hilgersom takes on a biomorphic silhouette that suggests natural growth, while its meticulously layered surface reflects a distinctly contemporary technological sensibility. Built from scale-like elements, the work resolves into a piece that feels both organic and engineered.

Spring has officially hopped in 🐰🌸

In ā€œChinensis,ā€ Hunt Slonem’s bunnies gather in a lively tangle of looping lines and springtime colors. The energetic brushwork makes the hares feel like they’re in motion, multiplying and mingling like a field coming alive.

Hunt Slonem’s paintings move between precision and excess, built through repetition. Layered marks accumulate, and rabbits, birds, and butterflies recur as a steady visual rhythm.

Born in 1951 in Kittery, Maine, Slonem studied at Tulane University and spent part of his early life abroad in Hawaii, Nicaragua, and Mexico, experiences that shaped his lasting interest in tropical imagery and wildlife. Associated with Neo-Expressionism, he has developed a distinct painterly language over several decades. His work is held in the collections of institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
