We are excited to announce the Chalk Rep Writers Group cohort for 2026. . Led by , and hosted by , this year will focus on 2nd drafts of plays by this accomplished group of writers. We’re building community while building plays. Look for the public readings of the work early next year! Let’s launch these LA plays!

CALLING ALL LOS ANGELES THEATER COMMUNITY MEMBERS. We are excited to announce the new theatre service organization, THEATRE COMMONS LA.

Theatre Commons LA is by and for our Los Angeles theatre community, and we will be celebrating the launch of the new theatre listing website on October 20th at the Pasadena Playhouse.

Time: October 20th - 7pm

Address: 39 S El Molino Ave, Pasadena, CA 91101

Parking: $6 parking is conveniently located directly across from the theater in the Playhouse Plaza Parking Structure (38 S. El Molino Ave). There are also many free and paid street parking options in and around the Playhouse District.

Congratulations .yo_hankim for receiving the Dominic Orlando Playwriting Award! We are honored to be a part of David's playwriting journey producing his play PANG SPA last spring 2024 and fostering the development of his play TWO STOP in Chalk Rep's Writers Group. We look forward to the third installment of the trilogy!

The Dominic Orlando Fund was created in the spirit of Orlando's life and work to support writers with an "unconventional career" who have forged their own paths by producing their own work, running their own independent companies, and/or artists who have taken artistic risks without finding significant financial or material support from large institutional theaters or philanthropic organizations. There is a special interest in recognizing writers who have made a continued commitment to smaller-budget theater companies and ensembles and helped them push the boundaries of what theater and playwriting can be.

Chalk Rep has had a phenomenal year because of you! We opened our first full production since the pandemic and the largest show in our 16 year history. We won awards and critical acclaim. We strengthened our L.A. theatre community through collaborations with the likes of EST/LA, Outside In Theatre, and CTG. We presented a staged reading of a new musical.

You made this happen! There are so many ways to support Chalk Rep and support LA Theatre. Whether you made a donation, volunteered, worked the box office, attended a show, shared a post, or shared your creativity as an artist you made and make all of this happen.

A musical was born this week! Congratulations to and for creating this beautiful piece called ONWARD, RUTHLESS. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the reading and process as well as an amazing creative team that brought these characters and world to life. You are all incredible!

ONWARD, RUTHLESS was written as a part of Chalk Rep's Writers Group where a small cohort of writers develop a piece over the course of a year and culminate with a staged reading. Although Chalk Rep is a catalyst, it truly takes a village to support the development of a play and its creators, especially when it is a musical.

This reading would not have happened without the partnership of and . We are so grateful to you all for coming along this ride with us.

We look forward to seeing how this baby grows and where it finds its place in the world!

Have we told you lately how amazing and the are?? One of the reasons that Los Angeles is a mecca for creativity and the arts is because of our support from LA County Arts and Culture. We are continually grateful and humbled by their support and all the hard work of their staff to keep organizations like Chalk alive and creating. Congratulations to all the grantees!
