Jewish Museum of the American West

Jewish Museum of the American West The Jewish Museum is a Virtual Museum. PLUS, we can add to and correct any exhibit. AND, visitors can submit material for their own pioneer ancestor's Exhibit.

The Jewish Museum of the American West features exhibition halls about early Jewish pioneers, their families, how they got here, and what they were able to accomplish. Unlike regular museums we have no walls to limit what we can exhibit, we have no admission charge, no long drive to the museum, no parking fees, and, most important, no line of screaming school children. We suggest you use you computer with the largest screen to better enjoy our experience.

Jewish Museum of the American West director Jonathan Friedmann's CHAI NOON: JEWS AND THE CINEMATIC WEST (University of Wisconsin Press, 2025) explores Jewish contributors who have shaped the Western ever since the silent era, both onscreen and offscreen, and filmmakers who have sought to infuse the genre with a distinctly Jewish sensibility.

Only a few Westerns contain explicitly Jewish stories or themes, and very rarely do Old West tales involve identifiably Jewish characters. Yet Jewish contributors have shaped the Western—once Hollywood’s most popular genre—ever since the silent era, both onscreen and offscreen, and some filmma...
