Baraka Njenga (a.k.a. Frankie Jax No Mad) is a longtime friend and patron of Coaxial Arts. He has performed countless times at Coaxial, and his curated Not Evil events have been held regularly at our space, including as part of our 10th anniversary week in spring of last year. This past week, Baraka was detained by I.C.E. in Portland, and he’s currently being held in Washington state. His partner Bailey has started a GoFundMe to help with legal fees, bills, and other expenses as they navigate this traumatic injustice. Anyone who’s met Baraka knows how kind, passionate, and supportive he’s been of the music and artistic scenes of Los Angeles and Portland. His deep commitment to the power of art and community is one of the best representations we can think of what we aspire to do with Coaxial. This horrific news has left us distraught.
