18x24” cityscape drawing in charcoal.

I was hopeful this piece would help me win the $1000 of materials package necessary for the next section of art institute mastery program.

I worked on it a little each day and felt really confident it met the exercise requirements and was a good enough piece to win the student contest for materials… and then I went to upload.

So the First other submission, I see in my category, is better than mine, in my opinion. So I’m disappointed. Before the winner is even announced.

I uploaded it anyway since the contest is why I worked so hard at making it worthy, instead of just slinging something out to get thru the assignment. Because I hate drawing. anyway

“dad’s magnets” 2024
Alla Prima (wet on wet) oil painting completed in a single l-o-n-g session, because again it was sized larger than suggested, and I made another complicated still life.

But this was personal. This is my dad’s baseball cap and the magnets that he maintained interest in, and little else, until the end. He died of complications from Alzheimer’s. The magnets and baseball caps I brought home are my link to him.

That ai is scraping human artist’s posted art, is expected.
It is learning to create, almost exactly like humans learn to create; via mimic and merge of visual and audio input to produce unique output packages.

I’ve resisted Instagram because I’ve just felt weird about Facebook owning it, and using it means you agree to allow Instagram to use your images. And I can use Your images, and ai can use everyone’s images.

I’m probably going to start using Instagram for my art career, even though I’ve got a strong personal aversion to it. Facts: right now, people find artists via Instagram, and social media, in general.

This is today’s topic.

Still Life from Photo in charcoal, 18x24”
Executed in just under 3 hours start to finish.

I am getting noticeably better, and made the time constraint, for this exercise.

#2 “mad cat monkeys” 2024
This one took nearly 5 hours and I’m not finished yet. Damn.

It is nearly double the 2.5 hour suggested time. But I made a composition that is too complicated and larger than suggested.

I was supposed to do 8x10” or 9x12”. My (recycled) canvas is 12x17”. Almost double suggested width. So I’m still not really disappointed in my time, because I covered more surface than suggested. I figure that is worth some extra time.

I still need to draw the text and sketch cat on the mini frisbee; and sign it.

But I just couldn’t manage the frisbee drawing; the electric blue paint is too wet.

So I’ve stopped for the day.
I can sign it anytime … but I’m too OCD to sign an unfinished work, so I’ll wait.

“ELLEN” 2024
This is my 1st ever which means “wet on wet”.

I painted this in one session, almost 4 hours. I was supposed to finish in 2.5ish hours but I don’t care.

This is THE FASTEST I’ve ever painted anything in my entire artist life, and it is OIL, which I have only painted 5, previous to this alla prima still life.

I’m so happy I can’t believe how fast I did this wet on wet oil painting. I considered painting alla prima an Urban Legend… I just didn’t think it was possible to paint OIL paintings start to finish without (many) drying sessions between painting.

Hello everyone, my name is RawfeyL and I’m a recovering s-l-o-w painter. Today is my FIRST day of speed painting and I feel like a boss.

Photos: “ELLEN” 2024, and the painting next to the still life, it’s representing, for tax.

my first week of drawing … things. I’ve also done some drawing tools exercises that are boring so I won’t post that.

But my story is: I don’t draw. I’ve never been a drawing fan. I’ve always struggled so I just didn’t do it as a grown up. I hated it. Don’t know why.

But when I paint, I squish paint around and it comes out as I want. No drawing necessary. When I carve stone, and I put chisel to rock, it pulls away what I want. Again no drawing necessary.

Drawing is freaking hard. Here are my first week of forced drawing classes results. Basically I’m still crap at drawing, but I’m slogging through.

Pics=My hand holding a brush, my favorite shoe, a cheetah that I drew along with an online workshop and finished up following the livestream.

That damn cheetah took after class because I got discouraged right at the beginning and stopped and just watched. After an hour or so I felt like a loser and forced myself to finish and post to the school feed and here…
So now my humiliation is complete.

The title and signature of “General Finishes”, 2017.🎨
15 pallet wood disc course signs, and two individual letters.

That is how long a cheap $20 wood burning kit from lasted, before the heat wand just stopped working.💩

I had previously agonized over charging a $110 “Pyrography Kit” (fancy name, fancy price) on Amazon. I justified the upgrade for variable temperature control, two heat wands, and 50+ tips.💯🔥

🔥The new kit came in just in time.

My opinion is: a tool should last for years of Regular Use. The cheap wood burning tool from Michael’s was not worth the price. 🧐

For my concerned followers:
This is me using one of my many space heaters in the position it works best, one foot away.

Two feet away and it is visible breath, 45f. 😂

In the 1960s it was called "hardening of the arteries of the brain", then it was called Alzheimers. Today the word "dementia" is more in vogue. Fact is that people have had memory loss with age for centuries. Benjamin Franklin had it! Someone once said when you love someone with dementia you lose them twice, once when they are diagnosed and then when they die 😢 This is called “Ambiguous Loss.” 'Rapidly shrinking brain’ is how doctors now described it.
I wouldn't wish Dementia on anyone. As the patient's brain slowly dies, they change physically and eventually forget who their loved ones are.
Patients can eventually become bedridden, unable to move and unable to eat or drink.
There will be people who will scroll by this message because dementia has not touched them. They may not know what it's like to have a loved one who has fought or is fighting a battle against Dementia.
In an effort to raise awareness of this cruel disease, I would appreciate it if my friends could put this on your page for today.
Hold your finger anywhere on the message to copy and paste to your Timeline.💜💜💜💜💜💜

I am so glad a friend posted a query, a year ago on FB, for anyone who knew how to darn socks.

I was taught by my grandmother as a child, and then bought a book titled Creative Mending, to reacquaint myself with the mending techniques I was taught and new ways to make repairs, that are OBVIOUS.

Because reuse, recycle, repurpose is the trend for our times. Obvious mending is cool.

Now it trills me to darn a sock instead of throwing it away. The mended patches also make socks stronger. The old spots will never open again or get larger.
It is very satisfying.
