Volunteers Needed!

Are you passionate about local history, traditional crafts, or sharing community stories? Or maybe you need community hours for school, or want to add a little extra to your resume? The Louisa County Historical Society is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our volunteer team at the Sargeant Museum of Louisa County History!

Whether you want to help welcome visitors, assist with museum preservation, or get involved with our exciting historical guilds (like our Fiber, Herb & Hearth, or Heritage Skills programs), your time and talents can make a huge difference!

Our next hearth cooking workshop takes place on November 21st. This fall feast will be the last of our hearth cooking workshops for 2026!

Have you ever cooked a meal over a fire at an open hearth? Come experience the enjoyment of hearth-cooking and taste the delicious fruits of your labor! Receive basic instruction in preparation and cooking in our 18th-century Michie House. Participants gather at the end to enjoy a group meal! These cooking lessons with the Louisa Hearth Cooking Guild provide hands-on experience with traditional cooking methods, tools, and recipes, and revenues from tickets benefit the operations of the Louisa County Historical Society. The Michie House is located behind the museum on our Heritage Farm at 214 Fredericksburg Avenue, Louisa, Va. 23093.
Registration fee is $60. This is an adults-only workshop.

The Museum will have abbreviated hours today 9/18. We are welcoming visitors from 11:30-2. We apologize for any inconvenience. The Museum will be open tomorrow 10-4.

Louisa County Fiber Guild will not be meeting on Saturday. The museum is going to be closed for a special event

This is a reminder - if you haven't seen the other recent posts - that the Museum will be closed tomorrow, September 12th, as we will be hosting the fundraising event "A Toast to Liberty at Boswell's Tavern".
