Friends of NOD + OArt

YOU ARE INVITED

We are pleased to share our 11/8 Opening:

Artist Kelly Zellers: Ebb, Linger & Return

Kelly is a painter and mixed media artist whose work explores the emotional depth hidden beneath surface and form.
Working primarily in acrylics, she builds layers of color, texture, and gesture to reveal the tension between intensity and restraint.
Through abstraction, Kelly seeks to translate inner experience into visual rhythm—where what’s felt deeply can be quietly seen.

Yasunori Matsui, born in Kobe, Japan, has been based in Louisville, KY, since the summer of 2023.
From 2012 to 2015, Matsui photographed landscapes affected by wildfires in collaboration with the
Alaska National Park Service Fire Management, which led to the initiation of the Earth Frame Project
in 2019. This project reflects observations of natural lifecycles and civilization’s impacts on nature, as
mirrored in landscapes altered by both linear and non-linear events of Mother Nature and human
activities during a period of rapid change on our planet, Earth.

Matsui’s belief in the infinite capabilities of visual language through physical installations is reflected
in his commitment to presenting the project as curated experiences, showcased exclusively through
printed images. This approach enhances audience engagement in contrast to the current trends widely
embraced on digital platforms, which are driven by ever-evolving technology. His vision, combined
with the technical expertise and knowledge gained from his professional experiences, aims to capture
the adaptability and resilience of nature, which operates on ecological cycles significantly longer than those of humanity. This mission is one he intends to pass on to future generations.

Sunday artist discussion will also be held 1-3.

Opening with tomorrow evening 5-9

Earth Frame Project: Prologue is a photographic series by Yasunori Matsui, conceived with
support from the Alaska National Park Service Fire Management Program during the wildfire
seasons from 2012 to 2015.

The series draws inspiration from the primordial power of fire as it follows a non-linear path
to transform landscapes overnight. Ignited by lightning and extinguished by rain, these
conflagrations represent one of nature’s purest ecological processes. The end of a life cycle,
often perceived negatively, can also be viewed as the cycle’s apotheosis, wherein the
consumed landscape is transfigured into a renewed origin—the birth of a new life cycle.

The mission of the Earth Frame Project is to capture the changing face of our planet by
framing scientific, historical, and technological data with imagery and preserving the
opportunity to return and document the same cataloged landscapes in the years to come. The
ultimate objective is for this expanding archive to serve as a tool for future generations to
study an Earth that will continue to host our humanity and cohabiting species
