A frieze, in art, is a horizontal image with aesthetic and narrative considered vital to a people. The Parthenon Frieze in Athens, Greece is perhaps the most famous.
Wendi Smith painted 7 friezes, observing and commemorating the 7 major biomes of our planet.
Smith writes, "Interdependence is what makes the world work. The frieze is just a vehicle for showing people a different way to see the organization and scope of the designs of Nature, the truly intricate and beautiful way things connect, conserve, share, protect, and in general, make the world work. The more humanity interferes with these systems, the sooner our demise...
I made this piece with a highly decorative approach to elevate the images and make them important… I hope it works."
