Meet IH Jim Dickerman's painted metal sculpture on sale at the Grassroots Art Center. Did you know the incredible metal sculptures you see along the K-18 Highway were created by a local father-son duo?
Jim Dickerman, a welder by trade from Beverly, KS, and his son Trent Dickerman of Lincoln, KS, are the hands behind the 'Open Range Zoo.' They prove that you don't need a fancy studio to be an artist—just some metal scraps, a vision, and the skills you use every day.
At the Grassroots Art Center, we’re dedicated to documenting these unique Kansas environments and inspiring new creators like you!

Jim Dickerman of Beverly, KS, a welder by trade along with his son Trent Dickerman of Lincoln, KS created the "Open Range Zoo" of metal sculptures along K-18 Highway between Lucas and Tescott. Both Mr. Dickerman and his son have sculptures at the art center on exhibit and for sale.

How fun is this! We surprised the Grassroots Art Center with a $250 Random Grant of Kindness to support the Lucas Lego Challenge at the Adams Apple Festival. Thank you for making Russell County a wonderful place to live.

The Third Adventure of Mr. Minifig
For the last 2 weeks Sharkknight Minifig has been roaming the Grassroots Art Center discovering self-taught art. Today he stopped beside the Jim Dickerman's scrap metal creature named IH. Jim was a welder by trade. He and his Son Trent created the "Open Range Zoo" of metal sculptures along K-18 Highway between Lucas and Tescott. Mr. Dickerman has sculptures at the art center on exhibit and for sale. Many large metal sculptures are scattered throughout the town of Lucas.

The Grassroots Art Center"s LEGO© Facebook Challenge is to create your own LEGO© interpretation of the Dickerman metal creature, photograph it, and share it on our page. Every two weeks, Minifig will visit a new artwork, giving participants another chance to create and submit an entry. Please include your name, city and state. Minifig’s adventures will conclude on August 31.

On August 29th starting at 11:30am the Grassroots Art Center will host the “Lucas LEGO© Challenge.” It's an independent LEGO© Brick Building community tournament held in conjunction with the 52nd Lucas Adam's Apple Festival. All ages of Lego enthusiasts may enter the competition. Pre-registration is required, registration and rules for the event can be found on the Grassroots Art Center FB by following QR code to Lucas Lego © Challenge Pre-Registration Form.
