I feel like I’ve always had a creative nature. Through the years there have been many creative interests and pursuits. Painting, pen & ink drawing, calligraphy, zentangle, crewel embroidery, beadwork & crochet. I especially like to crochet using antique patterns, giving them new life using fresh colors or altering the pattern to my liking. As a special tribute to my mother, who was a breast cancer survivor, I crochet lap blankets to donate at Victory in the Valley in Wichita, Kansas.
I called Lincoln, Kansas home since 1993. For 41 years I worked at Philips Lighting in Salina until they shut down permanently in 2021. At that time I decided to retire and spend more time in my studio.
Many years ago I was lucky enough to take a Stained Glass class, and I’ve been hooked on glass ever since. Thank goodness, there is no cure! To me Stained Glass Art is the perfect intersection of art, architecture, history, color and texture. The dynamic interaction of light, color and texture gives each piece a life of its own that I could only imagine. I have strived to keep learning all I can and expand my skill set. I will never be bored or run out of inspiration for my work.
I do commissions and smaller restorations. If it fits on my work tables, I can do it! I enjoy getting to know my clients talking about what they want, making design and glass suggestions is to me very interesting. When the project is finished and they say to me that it turned out exactly as they envisioned, it is very satisfying.
In 2023, I had the pleasure of working on a very special commission that was featured on HGTV. Julie & Eddie Flores had moved a 1906 home to the countryside near Lincoln. Their renovation project was featured on an episode of “In With the Old”. The episode title is “Big Green Monster”. The panel that I designed for them is a large arched window and features a free form sun of many shades of red, orange and yellow setting over an ocean of many shades of blue. The background is clear textured glass, to accent the ever-changing Kansas sky outside. Easily in the top tier of favorite designs that I have made for a client. How cool is that!
During the summer of 2023, we “Downsized," moving from my big two-story Victorian home in Lincoln, Kansas to a 1955 Mid Century limestone house in Ellsworth, KS. The new house has big windows and I’m looking forward to what I’ll be inspired to create for the house.
Since my house in Lincoln has sold, we are in the process of building a new, improved & bigger stained glass studio in our backyard. It’s gonna be awesome! Stay tuned for updates!
