What structures around Lynchburg do you think are in most critical need of saving/preservation - from a historic standpoint? I'd love your thoughts!

A project LYH250 has been working on for over a year has finally come to a beautiful completion! The book, "A Good and Pleasant Company," has arrived at the LYH Lynchburg Historical Foundation headquarters and is ready for distribution! This book represents the combined efforts of over 60 contributing authors and researchers, plus hours of editing and structuring thanks to Drs. Clifton and Dorothy Bundy Potter. It looks even better than I imagined it would thanks to Blackwell Press. And another special thanks goes out to Nancy Young, who has championed this book everywhere she's gone, collecting orders and donations along the way. A whole community has rallied around this project and it's really incredible to see. The stories captured in these pages are stories that deserve to be told, and we're so glad we get to share them with you.

If you pre-ordered this book, then it's available for you to pick up and you should be receiving an email with instructions on how to accomplish that. If you have NOT ordered it, it will soon be available for purchase around town at Givens Books Little Dickens, and a few other locations. I'll put out a list very soon.

The Sunday Papers:
⛅️Today in 1853, the Lynchburg Daily Virginian reported a noontime temperature of 50 degrees.
✏️Schoolteacher William B. Featherston placed an ad to announce that the next session of classes was starting at his schoolhouse and the fee for the February through July session was $12.50, $15, or $20 depending on the grade of the pupil.
🐕SB Davenport placed a "LOST" ad and offered a "liberal reward" for information or the return of his "small terrier puppy, black with yellow legs and breast, and a yellow spot over each eye." I sure hope he got his dog back.
🚢Boyd, Edmund and Davenport, the biggest packet boat company on the James, posted a schedule and fee chart for transportation between Richmond and Buchanan, boasting Richmond to Lynchburg in 34 hours. Picture below!

That's it for this week, but tune in next Sunday for another glimpse into the past! You never know when in history we'll show up! If you're interested in a particular topic or date, let me know in the comments!
