What a wonderful opening for our annual Works in Progress show, which highlights work from Art and Graphic Design classes each Fall. The gallery was flooded with students and faculty enjoying the Art and indulging in some hot chocolate and cookies. This past moth we have been thoroughly enjoying our current show, Turbidity Paintings, by artists Sara Gevurtz and Thomas Asmuth. Join us tomorrow for a closing reception and artist talk at 6:00! This is the last week to see the exhibition, Threaded Actions: Ken Friedman, Bibbe Hansen, and Friends! On Thursday at the McEachern Art Center at 6:30 p.m., Bibbe Hansen will be joining us for a Zoom talk about her work. This is a public presentation, so come join us and tell your friends!

Thank you to Maria Avlonitis for covering the show! This is part of a series of Fluxus Art shows and events that includes video and film screenings at the McEachern Art Center and the Plunkett Gallery on Mercer's campus here in Macon.

Fluxus art emerged in the 1960s, using objects to blur the boundaries between art and everyday life. At this gallery, visitors are encourages to interact with the pieces, and be inspired to make their own.

As part of our current show, Threaded Actions: Ken Friedman, Bibbe Hansen, and Friends, the McEachern Art Center will host a series of film and video screenings in the installation room, running from September 19th through October 12th. The featured video, The Exquisite Moving Co**se, includes scenes by Bibbe Hansen and Ken Friedman! The video, organized by Sean Miller, Jack Massing, and Chip Lord, showcases 60 artists in 60 minutes, whose work uses the Surrealist parlor game as the structure for the video.

Other screenings include a video of a recent performance of Fluxus artist and composer, Philip Corner's Piano Activities, which include Bibbe Hansen, Billie Maciunas, Sean Miller, and Craig Coleman. This performance was part of the Fluxus in the Swamp exhibition, currently at Santa Fe College Gallery in Gainesville, Florida . Additional videos by Bibbe Hansen, Beck, and Channing Hansen will also be shown.
Screenings at the McEachern will be held:

Thursdays: 4:00 - 6:00 PM
Fridays: 6:00 - 8:00 PM
Saturdays: 4:00 - 6:00 PM

Special events include a talk by Bibbe Hansen on October 10th and a Q&A with Dr. Billie Maciunas on October 11th following a screening of George, a documentary about her late husband, Fluxus founder George Maciunas.

Don't miss this exciting opportunity to engage with the legacy of the Fluxus Art movement! These events are partially funded by a Visit Macon grant!

We are so delighted with the new exhibition, Threaded Actions, Ken Friedman, Bibbe Hansen, and Friends! On view now through October 12. Come by the gallery and get acquainted with Fluxus Art! Bibbe Hansen will be visiting Mercer's campus and the McEachern Art Center on October 11! Also, the McEachern Art Center will be screening films and videos related to Fluxus Art in the installation room. More details soon!

The Mercer Art Department would like to invite you to the Summer Salon at Hardman Hall this Thursday at 6PM. The exhibition showcases the works from our 17 senior class students as they begin preparing for their capstone exhibition in the spring. The show will include a variety of work across all art courses in the department. The exhibit will be at the Plunkett Gallery on Campus. We hope to see you all there. TONIGHT! During Macon's First Friday >> Join us for the opening reception of "Vivid Chronicles," a captivating art exhibition featuring the work of talented students from Mercer University's Junior/Senior Studio class. Held at the Green Light Gallery in Macon, Georgia, this event showcases self-directed projects created during the Spring 2024 semester at the McEachern Art Center's studio spaces. The exhibition presents a diverse array of themes and mediums, with four students showcasing their talents in painting, one in drawing, and another in graphic design. This promises to be a delightful show highlighting the creativity and innovation of these emerging artists.
