🇺🇸 Revolutionary War Veteran Graves Project Update 🇺🇸

The collection portal for the Revolutionary War Veteran Graves Project is closing soon—and we need your help to finish strong.

We still have over 3,700 veterans left to record before the deadline on May 4, 2026. After that, all submissions will be reviewed and verified, with final results set to be published by July 4, 2026.

To make it easier to get involved, we’ve teamed up with the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) to launch the SAR Ohio Cemeteries Dashboard:

This powerful tool helps you find cemeteries near you. Compare the cemeteries to the Live Results Dashboard: (https://ohpo.maps.arcgis.com/apps/dashboards/6c0513ba52704005b71e1783a00be8f0)
to see what still needs recorded in your area!

Whether you're a history buff, genealogist, or just looking for a meaningful outdoor activity—this is your chance to make an impact.

Who remembers Branch’s Corners? From the 1857 Lake County Historic Map and the old references we have in our files, Branch’s Corners was located in North Madison at the intersection of what is now Route 20 and Hubbard Road. Revolutionary War Veteran William Branch, born 1760 in Norwich CT, enlisted as a Private in the Connecticut troops in 1777. He was engaged in a number of battles and skirmishes. He was with Washington at Valley Forge in the winter of 1777-1778, participated in the siege of Yorktown, and was present when Cornwallis surrendered in 1781. Present at the trial and ex*****on of Major Andre, he was one of three men appointed by General Washington for Andre’s burial detail.
William Branch and his wife Lucretia, both Connecticut natives, moved to New York after the war. They had five children there, and in 1834, the entire family moved to Kirtland, finally settling in Madison in 1837. William died in 1849 and is buried in Middle Ridge Cemetery. The 1857 map shows properties on the west side of the intersection as belonging to William Witter Branch, Erastus Witter Branch, Samuel Gore Branch, and further east, property belonging to Ambrose Branch.

Our friends at the Lake County Genealogical Society - Ohio shared some great information in their last newsletter, a website where thousands of Civil War letters are available to view for free! The link is /billyyankjohnnyreb.wordpress.com/ohio/, for Ohio soldiers. This is a great website to visit on a snowbound day! And be sure to check out the lcgsohio.org to learn more about the Lake County Genealogical Society!
