Our Chief Engagement Officer Berit Ness and Academic Coordinator Mieke Miller talk with hosts David Macasaet and Molly Harris about the ways we can collaborate with faculty—and offer students who may not have spent time at museums "radical hospitality" to feel comfortable with a new way of learning.

"Our goal is that class visits to the museum are not to the side of the learning goals on the syllabus, but rather a new strategy to advance those same goals in a different setting," Ness says.

Yes, it's true! We've opened the first section of reinstalled galleries, all on the Chazen building's third floor. Gallery 10 and the Elvehjem building galleries remain closed as we work towards a full reopening in November.

Pressing Issues Celebration with UW–Madison School for Workers
📆Thursday, Oct. 8 | 🕔 5–7 p.m. | 📍Chazen Museum of Art

Join us as we celebrate the courage and vision of Depression-era artists who used their prints to call out the inequity, exploitation, and racism they saw all around them.

Pressing Issues: Printmaking as Social Justice in 1930s United States provides a visceral and much-needed reminder of how visual artists can question and challenge oppression in all its forms.

Starting at 5 p.m., UW-Madison School for Workers scholars Dr. Ericka Wills and Prof. Alexia Kulwiec will discuss the state of labor in the United States since these prints were made.

After the conversation, join us in the Mead Witter Lobby for a public reception with complimentary appetizers and a cash bar, and take an opportunity to tour the exhibition.

Pressing Issues is organized by the Krannert Art Museum, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and curated by Kathryn Koca Polite.

🕔Starting at 5 p.m. today, UW–Madison’s iconic Flocktober fun-raiser returns! For each gift made over the next 24 hours, a pink lawn flamingo will land on Bascom Hill—carrying on a campus tradition launched by the irreverent student group, the Pail and Shovel Party, in 1979.

Every gift—no matter the size—keeps the Chazen thriving. Your support directly fuels our free public programming, educational opportunities, and our major initiative: a total reinstallation of our permanent collection across all galleries. It’s our most ambitious museum project since the building expansion in 2011!
