Madison Children's Museum

Madison Children's Museum Madison Children's Museum is a community hub for children and families where play is serious business. Keep your eyes out to see what's new!
(2142)

Our exhibits are created just for our museum by an on-staff team of creatives, artisans, and child development experts! Madison Children's Museum is the area's premier destination for hands-on fun and learning for the whole family! We have various exhibit areas throughout the museum, including: the Rowland Rooftop Ramble, a four-season green roof with animals and gardens; the Wildernest, a global

village made with natural, local materials and designed for ages 5 and under; the Bakke Art Studio, where visitors can do a daily drop-in project and paint on windows; our newest exhibit From Coops to Cathedrals Nature, Childhood, and the Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright where kids can tinker, play, draw inspiration from nature, and explore just like the famous local architect did; and the DeAtley Community Concourse, a free-admission area with several exhibits and a pizza cafe. Our in-house team of artists and artisans designs, builds, and maintain the exhibits and features change continuously throughout the year. The museum also offers special programs and events daily; view our website calendar to plan your visit.

Madison Children's Museum shares the Association of Children's Museums' vision for a world that prioritizes the rights of all children to playful learning and a healthy, safe, and equitable future. This vision is not a passive goal; it is a fundamental right. Today, that future is under direct threat.

We are committed to providing safe spaces for children and families to gather in community, engage, and learn. We will be open regular hours on Friday, May 1. If you will be attending the Day Without Immigrants rally on Capitol Square with young children and need a break, our Community Concourse provides free admission for children and their caregivers, with access to restrooms, water, and our pay-what-you-can Lunchbox Cafe. Our team is working together across departments to make it possible for museum staff who wish to participate in the rally to do so.

At the museum on Friday, we invite families to practice kindness skills in the Nice Age Trail, express themselves in the Art Studio, breathe deeply on the Rooftop Ramble, and learn advocacy skills by writing to elected officials at our postcard-writing station.

Happy Independent Bookstore Day! It's the perfect chance for us to brag about our collaboration with brilliant mapmaker Kevin Cannon. We loved the maps he's been making for the Midwest Booksellers Association so much that we asked him to create a map of Madison Children's Museum—and we're obsessed!

Celebrate Indie Bookstore Day with us by stopping by one or more of our incredible local indies (Lake City Books books is right across the street!) and then run, jump, skip, or hop down to MCM to find your next adventure.

ps. Did we mention that we have Adventure Map posters for sale in our Gift Shop?

ICYMI: We could not be more pleased to share the news of this incredibly generous gift from Jerry Frautschi! Our beloved building—which Jerry helped us acquire in 2005—is almost a centenarian, and the $6.5M gift will make a huge impact on our ability to give this building the TLC it needs.

The $6.5 million gift from late philanthropist Jerry Frautschi is the largest in the Madison Children’s Museum’s history.
