You’ll learn a lot of interesting facts about Madison County at the Madison County Museum. For instance, Madison was originally comprised from sections of three other counties (Grimes, Walker, and Leon) in 1854. And that Madisonville, county seat of Madison, lost four courthouses to fire including three in the first twenty years of the county’s inception. You might also want to know that Madison C

ounty has had a hand in most major Texas industries including cattle, crops, and oil. The Museum hosts changing exhibits including locally-made and antique quilts, an exhibition on WWll and contributions to the war effort by Madisonville citizens, and Madison County Christmas through the years. Madison County is also home to the annual Texas Mushroom Festival featuring an auto show, grape stomp, and cooking demonstrations dominated by the main ingredient – mushrooms!
