Nan's Place community! I really need your help! As many of you know, Hurricane Ian devastated parts of Orlando and adversely affected many people. 200 families face eviction at Cypress Landing Apartments alone due to severe flooding. I visited last week and it's in terrible condition. Sadly, the apartment of Yolanda Rios was ruined, including her disabled daughter's electric scooter. This story was picked up by Commissioner Uribe and then the Sentinel. Orlando Tenant Power and I took action to help one family at a time. Since the hurricane, her daughter has been without any mobility device, relying on being carried which caused her to fall and break her shoulder. In her appointment with her specialist, they recommended a new scooter (pictured here), which costs $1,430. And yet, Fema has reluctantly provided any support AND she is not eligible for a replacement through social security because they only authorize it every 5 five years. 100% of the proceeds raised will be to pay for a new scooter and any excess will be to help with short-term bills.
Please know, We are in regular contact with Yolanda and her daughter and are committed to raising these funds in earnest.Thank you for support.
