On Saturday, September 23 at 11 AM...we'll not only be discussing why 1888 was such a special year in Manistee but also examine photographs that were taken in the city during that year.

The oh-so plainly titled presentation, "1888: A Look Back" will be presented at the The Old Kirke Museum. Donations are certainly accepted and will be split evenly between the Old Kirke and the Manistee County Historical Museum.

For more information please contact the Manistee County Historical Museum at 231-723-5531.

Very happy to be a part of this cool opportunity to share our city's history!

Spearheaded by the fine folks at The Old Kirke Museum this is a great opportunity to tour some of the outstanding historic buildings in Manistee.

So if you have never been inside these structures or it's been a while, please join us all on July 1 and July 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Note...SOME of the buildings might require an admission fee but if they don't donations are always welcome.

To those who have not given it much thought the perception may be the saw mills are industrial centers of manu...

A 5-minute read on the process of making beer at the local brewery in 1937.

A view of the Chippewa Brewing Company circa late 1930s. In April of 1937 it was announced that Manistee’s brewery was to be reopened under new ownership. While replacing the previous iterations of the local concern (the C.H. Daniels Brewery/Manistee Brewing Co.) this new brewery, named the Chippe...

(The Fowler Building, formerly located at the southwest corner of Water and Maple street, were once home to city offices. We, in the United States, like to complain about high cost of government, and high taxes. (It has always been of interest to me that people in other western nations tend to focus...
